Clinical Alerts & Reminders

REAL TIME ALERTS FOR CAREGIVERS
Bring a new level of patient safety to your organization with full-fledged Clinical Alerting from IWT. With real-time monitoring of critical data, your caregivers can be notified of important clinical changes as soon as they happen. Clinical Alerting makes sure that high priority information always reaches appropriate caregivers in a timely fashion and helps ensure that less urgent tasks don’t get overlooked. Clinical Alerting can also equip healthcare organizations to efficiently identify and respond to cases for core measures, pay for performance requirements, and CMS’s present-on-admission reimbursement.
The logic behind Clinical Alerting is simple. IWT software evaluates the data it receives from your hospital’s systems, and checks it against user-configured rules for triggering alerts. If an alerting condition is detected, the Clinical Alerting system identifies the appropriate caregiver and sends them a notification. If an alert is not cleared, other staff members can be notified until the condition is resolved. Alerts can be linked to appropriate clinical practice guidelines for quick reference.
FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE ALERTS
Clinical Alerting utilizes IWT’s clinical decision support rules engine, which is designed to analyze a wide variety of data including lab results, vital signs, medications, orders, nursing assessments, bed data, alert data from clinical systems or devices, and data input directly into IWT’s applications. Data is received from an HL7 interface or other method. Alerts are completely customizable and can be triggered against a single variable such as a critical lab result, or against multiple variables such as patient being on a ventilator AND the head of the bed is below the 30 degree Fowler angle.
Once triggered, the routing of any alert can be tailored to fit your hospital’s system. Alerts can be directed to any caregiver, physician or nurse, including teams or groups. High priority alerts are pushed to the pager, wireless phone or other communication device of the proper caregiver. Clinical Alerting even allows you to configure an escalation hierarchy, so if a recipient doesn’t respond in a specified amount of time, the alert can be escalated to a second and third level. Clinical Alerting also provides reminders for less urgent tasks like restraint monitoring or patient repositioning. These alerts are displayed on IWT’s unique nurse unit screen, typically on a conveniently located touchscreen. Clinicians can also use this nurse unit view to check patient information at-a-glance.
Clinical Alerting provides exact documentation of how an alert was triggered, who it was received by, and when it was cleared. For reporting, Clinical Alerting offers a wealth of information to track the history of alerts and to identify trends and patterns for continuous performance improvement.
